My inquiry about the food did not just lead me directly to the food items; it also helped me explore Hispanic cuisine in general. In fact, I stayed a consistent guest at the dinner table at my Latino friend’s house every weekend. I was fed, loved, and learned a lot about the popular Hispanic dishes.

Best Hispanic Dishes to Try

Before we get straight to all the flavorful dishes, it is very important to keep in mind that Hispanic food is quire diverse. While most people think Hispanic food is predominantly Mexican food, this is not true. Food that comes from Latin American countries like Spain, Mexico, part of Central & South America as well as countries like Portuguese and French-speaking countries like Brazil and Haiti.

Also, keep in mind that not all the Latin American food can be considered Hispanic. you can know more about the difference between Hispanic and Latino food by searching online with the help of any stable internet connection like Xfinity. Now that you understand the basics of Hispanic food, let’s get to know about the best food items you should try.

Tacos

This one goes without saying. If you live in the US and you are interested in Hispanic food, there is a high chance that you have tried tacos. Perfectly crispy hard shells filled with tender and juicy meat, some spicy salsa, and sour sauce. The best thing about tacos is that you can customize them. You can pick a soft shell, alter the protein, fill it with the salad of your choice, or change the sauce if you want.

Quesadillas

Another global favorite, quesadilla, is a close relative of pizza. Although the dish originates from Mexico, everyone, regardless of age, gender, or location, loves it. Thinly rolled tortillas are filled with mushy meat and then grilled with cheese. Think of it like a grilled cheese sandwich but with tortillas. Mostly quesadillas are served with some sauce; however, there is no hard and fast rule.

Enchiladas

Nothing different here, enchiladas are a close relative of tacos and quesadillas. While this dish also includes corn tortillas just like the other two mentioned above, the star of the dish is chili pepper sauce filling and some sour cream topping. For some extra flavor, fresh ingredients and cheese are also sprinkled on the top. Just like most of the Hispanic dishes, you can always change the ingredients, add new ingredients, or customize the taste based on your preference.

Churros

If you have a sweet tooth and you enjoy a bit of sugar every now and then, you must love churros. Honestly, it reminds me of fries, but imagine fries being sweet. Just like fries, churros are considered a staple picnic snack for kids. Thick, crispy, and sugarcoated shell with gooey and soft cake-like texture on the inside, churros are generally served with thick sweet sauces. In most cases, this Sauce can be made of strawberry, raspberry, or melted chocolate. Either you can eat churros after dipping them into the sauce of your choice, or you can eat them without any sauce at all. The taste is unbeatable.

Guacamole

This might sound controversial for some, but I think when it comes to condiments, nothing can beat the perfectly blended guacamole. Mixed with some lime juice, a dash of salt and pepper, avocado is mashed till it turns gooey. This rich and tangy goodness is spread over a toast, can be served with Tortilla chips, or you can even eat it with Tacos and burritos. I also like to enjoy Guacamole with Grilled meats, Tostadas, quesadillas, and for breakfast with some toast and poached eggs.

Pupusas

Living in the USA, we all have heard about pancakes. Everyone loves the airy, fluffy, and light cake dripping with honey, chocolate, and maple for breakfast. Pupusas are a close relative of pancakes but slightly better. Now, I know you might be offended, but let me clarify this. This is a national dish of El Salvador, and it consists of thick corn tortillas that are filled with multiple ingredients. Although you can fill it up with meat, beans, or vegetables but my favorite way to enjoy pupusas is without cheese.

Salsa

Another fun condiment that needs no introduction at all – salsa. It is a perfect side dish for anyone who enjoys tangy and spicy sauces. While most of the sauces are thick and gooey, Salsa is slightly chunky. You will get to enjoy water sauce filled with tomato juice, lemon juice, pineapple juice, and some mango juice. Whereas the chunky part is mainly chopped tomato, pineapple, mango, avocado, onion, chili pepper, garlic, and more.

Simply put, Latino food has long been considered underrated, but it seems that it has finally made it to the mainstream. If you are just getting started, the above-mentioned dishes can help you enjoy Latino food.
